Virgil R. Shellenberger Sr., 85, of Bushong, Kansas, died Oct. 9, 1992 at Heritage Manor, Emporia, Kansas. Mr. Shellenberger, a lifetime resident of Lyon County, was a farmer and a stockman before his retirement.

Virgil R. Shellenberger Sr., the son of George and Emma Yahn Shellenberger, was born June 6, 1907, in rural Bushong, Kansas. He married Flora Rose Leffler Feb. 24, 193l, at Allen, Kansas.

Mr. Shellenberger was a member of the Bushong United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Springdale and Agnes City School Boards. He was a board member of the North Lyon County Senior Center at Allen, Kansas, the Over 40 Club and the Emporia Elder Citizens Club, both located in Emporia, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Virgil R. Shellenberger Jr. (Harriet), 1526 Thompson St., Emporia, Kansas, and George W. Shellenberger of Clarksbille, Ark.; a daughter, Betty Rose Mason (Don) of Kingman, Kansas,; a sister, Esther McInnes of Emporia, Kansas,; four grandchildren, Susan Morris (Mark), Denise Wyrick (John), Amy Larson (Jeffry), and Jeffry Mason; and four great grandchidren. His parents, an infant daughter, and five brohers, Fred, Everett, Ralph, John and Pearl Shellenberger died earlier.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. October 12, 1992, at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Emporia, Kansas. Burial was in the Agnes City Cemetery, north of Bushong, Kansas.

Memorial contributions to the Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association may be sent to the funeral home.

POSTSCRIPT
Mr. Shellenberger graduated from Allen High School, Allen Kansas, and then went to Kansas City and attended Business College.

Before he returned to farming and ranching on the Shellenberger Ranch, he and his brother Pearl owned and operated a saddle and shoe shop in Allen, Kansas.
