EMMA SHELLENBERGER DIES

Mrs. Emma Shellenberger died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. W. McInnes, in Allen, Kansas, Thursdy evening at 9 o'clock.

Emma Yahn was born Jan, 20, l868, near Centralia, Ill., the daughter of the late Francis and Susanna Yahn. When she was 18 months old the family came in a covered wagon settling northwest of Emporia, Kansas. Later the family moved to a farm west of Dunlap, Kansas.

She married George Shellenberger, April 18, 1887, at Dunlap, Kansas. They were engaged in farming near Dunlap. Kansas, moving to Olpe, Kansas, in l894 and then to a farm near Americus, Kansas, in l897, then to the Shellenberger Farm north of Bushong, Kansas, in 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Shellenberger retired from the farm in 1919, moving to Allen, Kansas, to live. She had lived with her daughter the past three months in Allen, Kansas.

She is survived by five sons; Everett G. Shellenberger of Geneseo, Kansas, Pearl L. Shellenberger of Pueblo, Colorado, Ralph J. Shellenberger, John W. Shellenberger and Virgil R. Shellenberger, all of the Bushong, Kansas, community, and one daughter, Mrs. Esther McInnes, of Allen, Kansas,; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Allen Methodist Church, the Women's Society of Christian Service, Lulu Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the Past Matron's Club and the Allen Rebekah Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oct. 7, 1939, and a son Charles Frederick Shellenberger, Jan. 9, 1948.

Funeral services will be held in the Allen, Kansas, Methodist Church Sunday, May 6, 1956, at 2 p.m. The Rev. John McGire will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Agnes City Cemetery north of Bushong, Kansas.

Mrs. Shellenberger was an accomplished quilt maker. She always had one that she was quilting setup in her spare room. She made many quilts for births, marriages and other special occasions.

She had a little dog named Judy that was her constant companion for many years.
