Isaac T - 1 April 1835
Mary - 24 October 1837

Mary Magdalena's parents were emigrants from Pennsylvania who like her husband's family were early settlers in Trumbull County, Ohio. Upon marriage she and her husband remained in Ohio and then moved to Genesee County, Michigan, by 1860 where they continued farming.

Husband John answered the Union call, enlisting early 1862 in Company I, 10th Michigan Infantry. He lasted about four months, dying of wounds in a St. Louis hospital 14 June 1862. She was living with two of her grown children in Flushing Township in 1870 and then with her daughter Mary in whose care she died in 1881.

Her children did well in life: as farmers, teachers, professionals and in business. Her most well known son was George Rufus Shatto who started off as dry-goods clerk, had his own store in Port Huron, sold out, went to Los Angeles and built a real estate empire including at one point Catalina Island, founding Avalon.
