Eli Shatto was the sixth of eight known siblings in his family. His Shatto ancestors were immigrants to Pennsylvania in the late 1730's and his grandfather, Adam Shatto, was one of the first group of Shattos to leave Pennsylvania for Ohio prior to 1810. He was born into a farming family that spent a bit more than a decade in Medina County before moving to Michigan by 1860.
The family had lost his younger sister, Abby, in infancy in Chatham before his birth. She also buried in this cemetery.
