Six years ago next January Mr. James A. Dixon, who had been an honored citizen of Piney township for many years and was known as one of the most excellent farmers in that section, quit the farm and came to Clarion to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. E. C. Faloon. Here in the glory and beauty of the sunset of life, enhanced by the peace of conscience and trustfulness of spirit engendered by his steadfast christian life, he faced the sunset with hopefulness and keen happy anticipation. He enjoyed his life in Clarion greatly and in days when physical strength permitted was wont to walk around town and visit with the friends of other days. Recently, however, he has not had the strength to go around much. He did not suffer long from sickness at the closing of life, but walked down in the valley without fear, being sustained and supported by the rod and staff of the Shepherd of his soul, and finally when he said "come up higher," the spirit of Jas. A. Dixon went over to the mansion prepared for him in the Father's house, sleeping away last Tuesday morning, Oct. 28, 1919, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 26 days. The deceased was born on the farm where he lived so long, on February 2, 1838, the son of William and Elizabeth Laughlin Dixon. He spent all of his entire life on that same farm except ten years, and the time he has lived in Clarion. He was united in marriage with Lavina J. Over, Jan. 16, 1862, who preceded him in death Oct. 8, 1911. The children survive these parents, the youngest daughter having been translated. The surviving children are: W. 0. Dixon, New Bethlehem, RD 1; J. E. Dixon, New Bethlehem; Mrs. J. E. Arner, Mrs. F. L. Crooks and Mrs. E. C. Faloon, Clarion; H. E. Dixon, RD 1, Sligo; Mrs. Gilbert Burns, RD 2 New Bethlehem; R. C. Dixon, Sheridanville; Mrs. 0. E. Barto and Grover Dixon, of Butler. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Nancy J. Reese, of Shippenville, and a half sister, Mrs. A. Able, Falls Creek. Mr. Dixon was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church practically all of his life, and was a man of pure, strong and noble christian character. A short funeral service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Faloon on Wednesday evening by Rev. Joseph Arnold, and the body was taken to Mt. Zion church Thursday morning, where Rev. W m. E. Bartlett, of Clarion, held the funeral service after which interment was made in Zion cemetery. Source: October 30, 1919 Clarion Democrat. Transcription of Paul Kifer.
