Mabel J. Krenik, age 90, passed away on September 20, 2018, in Flower Mound, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Mabel was born in Zahl, North Dakota, to Alfred and Clara (Bruggeman) Fjeld. She graduated from Good Counsel Academy in Mankato, Minnesota and worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Mabel married John C. Krenik on September 14, 1949 in Mankato. They made their home in Le Center, Minnesota, where Mabel worked at Spors Company. In 1955, they built the first motel in Le Center, Center Motel, and Mabel operated it for 22 years. She enjoyed all those years visiting with and meeting new people. Mabel was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary as well as a member of the Moose and Eagle Clubs. John and Mabel enjoyed playing cards (Euchre) and going to dances with friends. For years and years they went out every Saturday night to dance at the neighboring town’s polka dances. They enjoyed traveling extensively, hitting all 50 states. Mabel was very devoted to her grandchildren whom she helped care for all their growing years. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

In 2010, John and Mabel moved to Texas to live near their daughter. Mabel was a very strong willed person. Until her last day, she did daily exercises, greeted you with a cheery “hello” and “always felt good”. Even though Mabel was losing her memory, she could still recite the entire rosary.

Mabel is survived by her children, Patricia Knish of Lonsdale, Minnesota, and Cindy (Doug) Nations of Flower Mound, Texas; sister, Judy (Donnie) Peterson of McAllen, Texas; grandchildren, Aaron and Asha Knish.

Mabel is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Krenik; parents; siblings, Marcie Buttons, Cyril Fjeld, Alma Osmundson, Dolores Goettl, Alice Page, Elmer Holbrook, Clifford Holbrook, and Paul Holbrook.
