James Z. Benham, son of Geo. P. Benham and Alice Wardrip Benham, was born March 10, 1894 and departed this life at Nichols General Hospital Jan 27, 1948.
He united in marriage April 18, 1924 with Betty Mae Strieble. To this union five children were born, James Lloyd Benham of Elizabeth, Ind., Lawrence Wayne Benham, Betty Jean who died in infancy, George Streible Benham and Harold Lewis Benham.
He is also survived by one grandchild; sisters Mrs. Hattie Chappell of Irvington, Mrs. Roxie Brown, Mrs. Nellie Beck and Mrs. Ethel Harrington; brothers Paul Benham and Barzillia Benham of Louisville, Pete Benham of Brandenburg and Lloyd Benham of Evansville, Ind.
He served his country in World War I and was honorably discharged after 19 months in active service in France as a First Class Private with the 115th Infantry. He was a faithful and loving husband, a devoted father, a dear brother,a good friend and neighbor, a true and faithful Christian.
His funeral was conducted by his pastor Rev. Fred 0. Sharp at Weldon Methodist church where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery.
