Arthur Duane Ahmann was born on August 16, 1929, in Foxholm, ND to Fred and Anna (Fuchs) Ahmann. He was one of 13 children. Duane attended school in Foxholm and worked on his parents’ farm prior to entering the US Army in March of 1951. He was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington and served in Germany for 18 months, being discharged at the rank of Sergeant.
On June 23, 1951, Duane married Dorothy “Doby” Wright of Williston, ND at Ft. Lewis, Washington. After his discharge, he worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company in Williston for four years, then 33 years as a truck driver for Bridgeman Dairy in Williston and Minot. Duane always enjoyed his route customers.
Duane was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot, almost never missing a Mass. He believed everyone was equal in God’s eyes. Duane was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Duane’s wife Dorothy died August 5, 2001, and on December 14, 2002, Duane married Janette Severson Bell of Cody, Wyoming at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot. They lived in Minot.
Duane’s daily routine was a sausage biscuit and senior coffee at Burger King, a drive up north of Minot in the afternoon, bingo at the Blind Duck and occasional trip to Belcourt and Four Bears in Newtown with relatives and friends.
Duane is survived by his wife Janette, Minot, son, Robert (Jane) of Rochester, MN, granddaughter, Ashley Ahmann, Austin,TX and her fiancée, Evan Gray, of Dublin, Ireland; "little girl” Carrie Dahl and her sister, Jodi Spangler, who were like the daughters he never had; brother, Alvin of Minot, sisters, Valetta (Ken) Tait, Villa Park, CA and Diane (Bill) Moore, Huntington Beach, CA; brothers-in-law, Jack Cowles, Mesa, AZ, LeRoy Limke, Carpio, ND, Tom Plemel, Minot; sisters-in-law, Donna Ahmann, Glenburn and Margie Ahmann, Minot; step-children, Janelle (Thor) Garaas and Kevin Severson all of Cody, WY, along with several nieces and nephews, all of whom were “the favorite.”
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, brothers, Everett, Delmar, John, Thomas and Kenny; sisters, Blanche Ahmann, Willora Cowles, Anna Mae Plemel, and Carol Limke, and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Ahmann, Judy Ahmann and Shirley Ahmann.
