Francis M. Beebe was born in New York on 2 Jul 1840 and died on 25 Sept 1921 in Millington, Tuscola Co., Michigan (per his death certificate).

Francis was the son of Clinton Henry Beebe (1805-1878) and Caroline WARNER (1804-1894).

His siblings were Lucilia (1825- ), Charles (1827-1913), Eli Henry (1828-1908), Ephraim Carlos (1833-1912), Cornelia L. (1836-1929), Abryon 'Byron' (1839-1910), Edwin (1842-1863), and Hyland Clifford Beebe (1844-1914).

Per the book, "Portrait and biographical record of Genesee, Lapeer and Tuscola counties ... By Chapman Brothers, Chicago [page 317], the Beebe family moved from New York to Michigan in 1843.

He married Fannie HADSTATE (1849-1936) in about 1866 in Michigan and they had three daughters and adopted one daughter:

Carrie (1866- ), Etta (1867-1868), Blanche (1870-1870), and Rose [adopted between 1900 and 1910](1896-1939)

Francis appeared on the following census records:

1850 - Attica, Lapeer Co., Michigan
1860 - Birch Run, Saginaw Co., Michigan (w/ parents)
1860 - Arbela Township, Tuscola Co., Michigan (w/ brother)
1880 - Arbela Township, Tuscola Co., Michigan
1910 - Arbela Township, Tuscola Co., Michigan
1920 - Millington, Tuscola Co., Michigan

*For some reason it appears that both Francis and his brother, Abyron 'Byron' were listed twice on the 1860 census - once living with their parents in Saginaw Co. and the other in Tuscola Co. with Abyron listed as the head of household. It could be that the boys had moved out and were living on their own or they were living near relatives, but their parents still included their names to the census taker.

As indicated below, at the age of 21, Francis enlisted for a period of three (3) years in Arbela Township, Tuscola Co., Michigan on 8 Aug 1861 in the Civil War. He joined the Michigan Civil War Volunteers in Company E., 7th Michigan Infantry. He mustered in on 22 Aug 1861 and was discharged for disability at Detroit, Michigan on 28 Nov 1863.

Francis' brother, Edwin, was killed in the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War and is buried in the Gettysburg National Military Cemetery. His other brothers, Abryon, Charles and Ephraim Carlos, also served in the Civil War and I have to wonder if his brothers Eli Henry and Hyland Clifford Beebe didn't also serve in the Civil War (we don't have their records).

Francis is listed as a retired farmer on his death certificate.

From Toni: Francis was my 2nd great grand uncle; I am descended from his brother, Charles Beebe (1827-1913) who was my 2nd great grandfather.
