Eli Henry Beebe was the son of Clinton Henry Beebe (1805 - 1878) and Caroline Warner (1804 - 1894). Eli married Minerva Ann Woodman (1843 - 1917) on 19 Oct 1856 in Birch Run, Saginaw Co, Michigan when she was only 13 years old.

Eli appears on the 1860, 1870 & 1880 census reports for Burnside, Lapeer Co., Michigan. I could not find him on a 1900 census, but he died in North Branch Township, Lapeer County, Michigan on January 22, 1908. His death certificate indicates he was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lapeer, Lapeer County, Michigan.

Eli's siblings were: Lucilia (1825- ), Charles (1827-1913)[*Charles my g-g grandfather], Ephraim Carlos (1833-1912), Corneila L. (1836-1929), Abryron (1839-1910), Francis M. (1840-1921), Edwin (1842-1863 died in Civil War at the Battle of Gettysburg*), and Hyland Clifford (1844-1914).

Eli Henry and Minerva Ann had the following children: Lydia A. (1858-1887), David E. (1860- ), Mary Jane (1863-1917), Harriet (1868-1951), Rose (1872-1962), Edgar J. (1876- ), Almira (1878- ), Jacob W. (1881- ) and Florence (1888-1966).

*Eli's brother, Edwin, was killed in the Battle of Gettysburg on 3 Jul 1863. His body was put in a mass grave with other soldiers (buried on the ridge that ran from the Abraham Bryan's farm to Peter Frey's farm). Edwin's body was later re-interred in the Gettysburg National Military Cemetery in Michigan Plot A-21.

Eli is descended from John Beebe (1600-1650) who died on the ship "Speedwell" on the voyage over. John Beebe left a will in which he named his children. John is buried New London, New London, Connecticut.

Eli's descent is as follows:

Thomas Beeby/Bebe (1535-1622) & Unknown
John Beeby (1570-1622) & Alice
John (1600-1650) & Rebecca Ladd
Samuel 'Sr.' (1633-1712) & Mary Agnes Keeney
Jonathan (1674-1761) & Bridget W. Brockway
Jonathan (1694- ) & Hannah Cooley
Daniel (1728-1794) & Hannah Beebe*
Eli (1753- ) & Patience Clay
Eli Putnam 'Sr'(1782-1863) & Sally Ann Train
Clinton Henry (1805-1878) & Caroline Warner

*Daniel Beebe married his cousin Hannah Beebe - both were descended from Samuel Beebe, Sr. Hannah's line was:

Samuel Beebe, Sr. (1633-1712) & Mary Agnes Keeney
William S. Beebe (1665-1750) & Ruth Rogers
Ezekiel Beebe (1708-1779) & Hannah Rogers
Hannah Beebe

Please note that I corrected Eli's line based on information provided to me from Alan Henry who had done extensive research on the Beebe line (Alan's wife was a Beebe descendant). Alan passed away a few years ago but his daughter gave me some additional information but I don't have the documentation that Alan had.

I would greatly appreciate a photo of his headstone. See note below from a FAG member who went to the cemetery for me:

Sorry, but the cemetery records do not have a record for Eli Henry Beebe being buried at Maple Grove. They do have Minerva listed as buried there, however I searched the entire C section to no avail, either her stone has been exposed so much that it is illegible (there are MANY of those in thos cemetery) or she does not have a stone. I did not find any Beebe's in the section at all.

April 14, 2014: Another member sent me the following message and I thought I would include it as it may be a lead to Eli's grave site although I feel he would have been buried next to his wife:

"This may or may not help you, but there is/was a second Maple Grove Cemetery in Lapeer County--it is listed in F/G as "defunct", and has some burials listed from the 1860's. Elba Twp (where that one is located) has a lot of Lapeer mailing, while North Branch (the location of the Maple Grove containing this memorial) does not. Don't know if this helps, but I just thought I'd let you know."
