14th Alabama Inf Comp D
He was wounded with a slight gunshot wound at the Battle of Gaines Mill June 27, 1862. Jesse was admitted to Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond the next day, June 28.
He later appears in the Confederate hospital in Staunton, Va. He died there on September 19 and would have been buried in the unmarked gravesite.
There is an affadavit in his service record that Jasper Briskey, dated March 28, 1863, was collecting Jesse's back pay. It is more likely that Jesse probably died of measles rather than his wounds which was said to be in the hand. I believe that his burial record listed in the official records are as Jesse Brinkley in error.∼Co D, 14th Ala Inf
