In Memory
Whereas, it hath pleased our Heavenly Father to call from this heavenly sanctuary to the Haven of Rest the spirit of Mrs. Nancy A. Briskey Leverette. She was born June 26, 1847, and died November 25, 1926.
She had been preparing for death quite a number of years, knowing that one day she must meet her blessed Redeemer face to face.
We feel sure she was prepared for the departure of this life as she had expressed her faith in her Lord so many times to us while living here among us. We now believe her soul is basking in the sunlight of God's love.
Sister Leverette had been a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for many years before her death. And we as a church deeply feel and mourn the loss of such a faithful and consistent member. She put forth many untiring efforts to attend the services of her church. And after her health failed and she was not able to attend the services she was still much interested in the prosperity of her church affairs.
Sister Leverette was one of the pioneer mothers of our country. She was a loyal and sympathizing neighbor and friend to the sick of her community, a faithful companion, a loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed in the home and neighborhood where she had lived for so many years. But as we mourn the loss of her earthly form many angel voices rejoiced the coming of her holy spirit to the new Jerusalem.
Therefore, be it resolved that, we as a church capacity, strive to live before our Lord and the people of our land that when we shall have fought the fight here upon this earth we may go home to our Savior as peaceful as Sister Leverette did.
Furthermore, that a copy of this writing be placed on our church record and one sent to the LaFayette Sun for publication.
Respectfully submitted,
Mr. T. J. Finley
Mrs. H. N. Sims
Mrs. Ruby Henderson, Committee.
(Per photograph of her tombstone in the Briskey Cemetery, Chambers County, Alabama reads: "Nancy A., wife of J. D. Leverett, June 25, 1847 - Nov. 26, 1926". gb)
