CAMP HILL, AL -- Mr. Charlie Joe Burton, 87, of Camp Hill died Monday, 6 Jun 2005 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday, 8 Jun 2005 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Revs Steve Powell, Charles Whitson and Alton Parris officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Burton is survived by his wife, Pearline Knight Burton of Camp Hill; three children, Joel Wilson (Dale) Burton, James Lynn (Ellen) Burton and Kay (Mark) Gillenwaters, all of Camp Hill; three sisters, Ruby Drake of Opelika, AL, Claude Isabell of LaFayette, AL and Jimmie Parris of Rainbow City, AL; one brother, Guy (Peggy) Burton of Lanett; eight grandchildren, Anna Burton, Andy Burton, Amy Burton, DeAnn Caldwell, Jamie Gillenwaters, Traves Burton, Britteny Burton and Charlie Burton; and two great-grandchildren, Vanessa Caldwell and Blaine Caldwell.

Mr. Burton was born in Tallapoosa County, AL on 16 Mar 1918. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 41 years. Mr. Burton served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. During the occupation of Japan, he served in New Guinea and the Philippines. Mr. Burton was preceded in death by three brothers, John Burton, Edison Burton and Robert Burton, and six sisters, Edith Sanders, Clara Sims LeCroy, Eunice Welch, Annie Laurie Sanders, Mary Sanders and Cenus Harris.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Alabama Medical Center Hospice or to Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
