WILLIAM N. FADLEY DIES OF INJURIES
IN LOCAL HOSPITAL

William Nelson Fadley, 71, Mary Street Extended, died yesterday morning at 2 o'clock in Allegany Hospital where he was admitted early Thursday morning after he was struck by a car in South Cumberland.

Dr. Linne H. Corson, deputy county medical examiner, reported yesterday that Mr. Fadley died as a result of traumatic shock without regaining consciousness.

A retired farmer, Mr. Fadley had lived here for eight years. He was a member of the United Brethren Church, Edinburg, Virginia.

He is survived by his third wife, Mrs. Clara Betters (Brady) Fadley; two daughters by his first wife, Mrs. Maude Williams, this city, and Mrs. Edna Iser, Short Gap, West Virginia; by his second wife, two sons, Fred and Nelson Fadley, both of Wiley Ford, West Virginia; and one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Rockwell.

Five children by his last marriage are Ralph Fadley, Wiley Ford; PFC James Fadley, with the Army in the Philippines, and Marshall Fadley, Mrs. Effie Carr and Miss Julia Fadley, all at home. 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Fadley, Quicksburg, Virginia, also survive.

The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home where services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. The reverend Vernon E, Shanholtz, pastor of the Brethren, will officiate, and interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Note:
Various newspaper articles have Nelson dying at the age of 71, 75, and "about 70." I suppose the journalists were only reporting what others stated to be his age. Nelson was born in 1869, however, and died at nearly the end of 1945, which means he was about 76 years old.

Wiliam Nelson Fadley's biography, along with biographies of his father, mother, and other family members, is in a book titled "The Root Cellar," available at Amazon.com or by requesting a free PDF version from the author.
