He was born August 10, 1898 in Utica, the son of Thomas and Mary Lynch Barry. Mr. Barry attended Utica schools and on May 17, 1927, he was married to mary ewen in St. Francis de Sales Church. He owned and operated Barry's liquor Store for over 40 years before his retirement in 1974. Mr. Barry was a member of Blessed Sacrement Church; formerly served as church trustee for several years; a member of the Knights of Columbus 189; and was formerly a member of Engine 11; and past president of Onieda County Liquor Dealers Association.
Survived is his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Lee) McGrew of New Hartford, Mrs. Warren (Bib) Hauck of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. G. Robert (Patricia) Carney of Deerfield, Mrs. John (Joan) Pupa of Utica; and one son, John T. Barry of Milwaukee, Wisc., one brother, Leo R. Barry of Utica; 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, a daughter Terry Barry died in 1935, and a son James P. Barry, Jr. died in 1952.
Funeral services will be held at the Quinn, Ryan, & Nunn, Inc. Funeral Home, 2212 Genesee St. on Thursday at 10:30, and at blessed Sacrement Church at 11. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9.
