George H. Krohmer, a resident of this city for over sixty-four years, died at a hospital in Iron Mountain, Michigan, on Saturday, November 4, 1950. He was taken critically ill while at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Victor Krohmer in Iron Mountain, where he had visited for a few weeks. His body was brought to New Lisbon where, on Wednesday afternoon, funeral services were held at the Wahl Funeral Home with the Rev. S. J. Schmelling, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was made in the family lot in the New Lisbon cemetery. Pallbearers were, C. A. Leicht, George Cade, John White, Geo. Oakes, Julius Grulke and Fred Rabuck.
A son of Gustav and Crescentia Krohmer, he was born in New Lisbon on September 23, 1870, and received his education in the public schools of this city.
His first employment was in a logging camp near Bear Bluff in Jackson county where he unfortunately met with a serious accident which resulted in the amputation of a leg. He later accepted employment in the New Lisbon Times office where he faithfully and efficiently held the position of foreman and compositor for over 35 years. He also held the office of city treasurer. In subsequent years he had employment in the Municipal Electric Light and Water Plant and was engaged in business in this city. For many years he was a member of the New Lisbon Volunteer Fire department and served as its treasurer.
On April 14, 1900, Miss Lenah May Duckworth of New Lisbon was united in marriage to him. Three children were born to this happy union. After the death of Mrs. Krohmer on Mar. 23, 1930, Mr. Krohmer made his home with his son, Victor of Iron Mountain, Mich. and with his daughter, Mrs. Oscar P. Hansen in South Dakota. He returned frequently to his native city to visit relatives and old friends who respected him highly. George Henry Krohmer possessed all the attributes of a splendid husband, father and friend and was one of this community's most highly respected citizens.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Oscar P. Hansen (Vivian), Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Wm. Gruetzmacher, (Lylas) of Watertown, Wis.; a son, Victor, Iron Mountain, Mich.; two sisters, Miss Louise Krohmer, New Lisbon and Mrs. Ed Meredith, Mauston; a brother, Gustav Krohmer, Froid, Montana; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
