Sam was a Veteran of Korea and served in the Military Police. Sam was a passionate hunter. Sam worked for the NC Forest Service from 1972-1991 and retired as the Forest Fire Equipment Operator at District 1, Asheville, NC.

He was the son of the late Willard Angel and Lina Parris Angel and also preceded in death by his sisters, Dema Griffin, Bertha Parham, Sue DeBruhl, Wilma Hollifield and Christine Moore; brothers, Ralph, Howard, Homer, Jay, Johnny and Mack Angel.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years Jean Ann Whiteside Angel; daughter, Patricia Grooms and husband Wesley of Candler; sons, Paul Angel and wife Maria of Alexander; Michael Angel of Swannanoa and Wesley Angel and wife Gwenda of Leicester; grandchildren, Amber, Colleen, Dawn and Forrest and great grandchildren, Alicia, Hannah, Breanna and Eli; in addition Papa Sam’s girls, Cailyn and Skyler. He also leaves behind his best friend, Bruce Redman “Governor”, and his wife Carolyn who always stood by Sam “true blue until the end”. Also, he leaves countless other friends whose friendship he treasured.
