R.T. Sparks, 76, pioneer resident of Denton County, died at 1:35 Wednesday morning of paralysis at his home north of Denton. He had been ill for some time and because of his advanced age his death was not unexpected.

Sparks was born in Orange County, Ind., Sept. 14, 1848, His parents moved to Kentucky soon after his birth and in that State he spent his childhood and young manhood. He later moved to Missouri and there was married to Miss Amanda Carolyn Collins and to this union were born four children: George Warren Sparks of Stony, Mrs. Olia James of Bartletsville, Okla., Mrs. Ethel Gibbons of Argyle and T.L. Sparks of Denton.

In 1877, Sparks and his family moved to Texas and settled in Denton County. Eleven years after coming here Mrs. Sparks died.

He later was married to his former wife sister, Miss Ruth Isabel Collins. Five children were born to this union: Stephen, Frank and Raymond Sparks of Denton, Mrs. Carolyn Lange of Wichita Falls and Mrs. Milbra Chapman of Iowa Park and Mrs. Jim George of Denton.

Surviving are his wife and all of his children, who were at his bedside at his death with the exception of Mrs. James of Oklahoma,

Funeral services were to be conducted by Rev. J.L. Griffith at the residence at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and burial was to be at the City Cemetery.
