Newton M. Adams, 67, of Franklin RD 1, died at 11:30 am Thursday while working in his yard. He was born May 3, 1896, son on John D. and Viola Wood Adams.
He lived all his life in the family home at Franklin RD 1. He worked as a bridge carpenter for New York Central Railroad until retiring three years ago. A veteran of World War I. he enlisted in Company L June 4, 1917, and was discharged Nov. 11, 1919. He was a member of the Polk Methodist Church, and the Men's Bible Class there; was a member of the B & B Brotherhood of the New York Central, Lodge No. 83, Loyal Order of Moose, and a chartr member of the Jesse G. Greer Post 1835, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
On April 17, 1936, he married Anna Mae Beachem, who survives, with a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Nellie Ida) Dodd of Cleveland, OH; two grandchildren, John Newton and Kelley Jo Dodd; two sisters, Mrs. Bess Stroup of Akron, OH; Miss Gertrude Adams of Polk; two sons, W. W. Adams and Plumer Adams of Franklin RD 1; and a number of nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, Samuel, and a sister. Mrs. Grace Lansche.
Services will be in Buchanan-Schmidt Funeral Home at 1:30 pm Sunday with Rev. Edward McCollough, pastor of Polk Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Sandy Cemetery.
