1850 Census = Born: 1835
1880 Census = Born: 1832

Note: These above are the dates on the tombstone. In many cases we are not sure of the birth dates other than from census and other such records. I'm certain he was NOT born in 1830, because his parents were married 28 January 1830 and he was not their 1st child. Neither of them had been married before, and as far as we know, they didn't have any children out of wedlock.

I did look up their census records, however 1850 is the 1st census that really helps. I

1. Andrew J Bryant M 15 1835 Kentucky Farmer

As I recall, his military pension records were more confusing than helpful, especially for his children.

The 3th child of Samuel & Elizabeth Jane 'Jane' Smith Briant.

Married: 28 January 1830 in Adair Co, KY

Their children:
1. George Washington 'Wash' BRIANT
2. David Francis Marion BRIANT/BRYANT
3. Andrew Jackson BRYANT
4. John BRIANT b. Abt 1835 d. March 09, 1864
5. Elizabeth "Betsy" BRIANT/BRYANT TAYLOR
6. Daniel Boone BRIANT/BRYANT
7. Sarah A BRIANT/BRYANT LESHER
8. Mary Leutitia "Sue" BRIANT/BRYANT CURENS DAVIS
9. Minerva Jane 'Merva' BRIANT/BRYANT JOHNSON
b. 15 September 1848 d. 11 January 1926
10. Matilda Ellen BRIANT/BRYANT CATON
11. Lydia Margaret 'Liddie' BRIANT/BRYANT STEEN

At this time, I'm not positive which spelling Samuel and Jane's children ended up with if I have both.

The descendants to the children of John and Elizabeth mostly seem to have ended up as BRYANT even though Samuel who for many years signed papers with an X seemed to use BRIANT.

Sam's tombstone reads Samuel Y Briant. It is thought the Y was intended to show that he used both spellings… BRIANT and BRYANT. The only initial which we know of that might go with Samuel is a W, which was used alone in one Census.

The funeral announcement fixed by his family has BRYANT. The brief announcement in the local paper also has the later BRYANT spelling.

Andrew Jackson BRYANT wives were:
Marriage 1 Polly WOODS
Marriage 2 Elizabeth SALLEY
Marriage 3 Sally HARMON

Note: Willie Bryant (1899 - 1899)*
is the grandson, not son of Andrew Jackson BRYANT Sr. He is the son of Andrew Jackson BRYANT Jr. and his wife Susan Leader Bryant.
