Death of Mrs. Caton.

Galena, Kan., Feb. 26.— Mrs. Matilda E. Caton, wife of Edward Caton, well known painter of Galena died at her home, No. 1006 Chicago avenue at 5 o'clock this morning following a short illness from heart disease.

Mrs. Caton was 69 years old and has been a resident of Galena many years.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Otis Caton and Edward Caton of Galena and two daughters, Mrs. Albert Brown of Tulsa, Okla., and Miss Lillie Caton, and two sisters, Mrs. Sim Johnson of Joplin and Mrs. Steen of this city.

Funeral services will be held in the family residence at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon.

Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

I have 11 February 1852 ~ 26 February 1920 from her KS death certificate, informant her husband, but birth year doesn't agree with Jonetta Davis Jones information. The death date isn't that readable.

They had tombstones, but they were destroyed by a son. The records are at the Galena Archival library.

Thomas E. Caton Dies After Brief
Illness—Funeral to Be Held
Thursday.


Galena, Kan., March 31.—Thomas E. Caton, 75 years old, a pioneer resident of Galena, died at his home, 1006 Chicago avenue, at 12:15 o'clock, noon today.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Caton was born in Brunswick, Mo., in 1850, and came to Galena about forty years ago. He was a painter and paper hanger.

His death came as a shock to his relatives and friends since had only been ill about three days and was not confined to his bed.

He is survived by two sons, S. C. (sic) [E.] Caton of Joplin, and Otis Caton of Galena; two daughters, Miss Lillian Caton of Galena, and Mrs. Albert [Maude] Brown of Tulsa; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Schans of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. James Dumm of Boulder, Colo., and a brother, Otis Caton of Salisbury, Mo.
