At this time, I'm not positive which spelling Samuel and Jane's children ended up with if I have both.

The descendants to the children of John and Elizabeth mostly seem to have ended up as BRYANT even though Samuel who for many years signed papers with an X seemed to use BRIANT.

Sam's tombstone reads Samuel Y Briant. It is thought the Y was intended to show that he used both spellings… BRIANT and BRYANT. The only initial which we know of that might go with Samuel is a W, which was used alone in one Census.

The funeral announcement fixed by his family has BRYANT. The brief announcement in the local paper also has the later BRYANT spelling.

John BRIANT was married 08 October 1858; by William Stansburt, Methodist Minister Adair Co. MO to Sarah M MARTIN, born: 18 August 1844; Kirkville, Adair Co. MO
died: 24 March 1926; Gower, Clinton Co. MO
She was daughter of Henry & Melinda ? Martin.

John & Sarah had two sons, Samuel and Johnny.
Samuel, born 07 July 1859 - survived.
Johnny, born: 12 March 1864 - died as a child.

Sarah remarried twice:
2. William H. Hargrove/Hartgrove
m: 01 October 1866; Winthrop, MO
3. T. W. Gardner
m: ca. 1875; Winthrop, MO

I do have John's pension papers, his birthday should be in them. I also have information from other BRIANT/BRYANT researchers. I will add more later. I don't have the information with me at this time.

It is believed this is the eldest son of John and Sarah:

Bryant, Samuel 21030036
b. Jul. 7, 1859 d. Jul. 5, 1948
Maple Hill Cemetery
Maple Hill
Wabaunsee County

I think this is Samuel's mother and John's wife, but if so her birth & death place info sure doesn't agree with mine.

Gardner, Sarah M 24568844
b. 1845 d. 1926
