Michael Judge

After a week's illness from pneumonia, Michael Judge died at his home in Wayne township Sunday morning, January 21, at 2:30 o'clock a.m. He had been in his usual health until stricken with the dread disease which took his life.

Michael Judge was born in Taylor county, Iowa, 55 years ago. In his early youth he came with his mother, the late Mrs. Mark Crane, Sr., and family, to this county where he grew to manhood. He lived a few years at Omaha, returning he settled on the farm in Wayne township where he died. He was married 17 years ago to Miss Anna Scieszinski at St. Patrick's church in Melrose.

To this union was born 10 children, 6 boys and 4 girls, one boy died in infancy, the others, Mary aged 16 years to the infant 5 days old are left with their heart broken mother to mourn his loss. He is also survived by one brother, Frank Judge, of St. Paul, Kansas. One sister, Mrs. Delia Thurston, of Chicago, besides three half-brothers and two half-sisters. Members of the Crane family and a host of neighbors and friends who deeply regret his untimely death and sympathize with his family in their loss.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning from the late home to St. Patrick's church in Melrose, where Solemn Requiem High mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Father Walsh, of Albia, Deacon and Rev. Fr. Murphy, of Georgetown, Sub-Deacon Father McCormick preached a fitting funeral oration and pronounced the final absolution. The funeral was attended by a very large congregation who showed by their presence the respect in which the deceased was held. The Modern Woodmen of America, of which he was a member, attended in a body and accompanied the remains to the final resting place in Mt. Calvary cemetery. the pallbearers were John Falvey, Ed Murray, Joseph Coleman, John Haganey, Hugh Curran and J.E. Smith. Friends from a distance that attended the funeral were, his brother Frank Judge, of St. Paul, Kansas, his half-brother Thos. Crane, nieces, Mrs. John Hess and Teresa Judge, cousins George Farrar and Frances Farrar, of Albia, L.T. Richmond, John Falvey of Albia, and many friends from Georgetown and Weller. All regret the death of this kind friend and neighbor and extend sympathy to his family in their sorrow.
