CLYATTVILLE — Mildred T. Wilkes, 84, of Clyattville, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 4, 1917, in Vidalia to the late Abbie and Lula Thompson and had lived in Lowndes County since 1953, and was a former resident of Jacksonville, Fla. Mrs. Wilkes was a member of the Clyattville United Methodist Church and the Clyattville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. Survivors include her husband, Arva L. "Pappy" Wilkes of Clyattville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles A. Wilkes and Terry and Peggy Wilkes, all of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Dustin C. and Kelli Wilkes of Columbus, Richard A. Wilkes and Barrett T. Wilkes, both of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Mollie Danner officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens.
