Earnest Tilton Martin is the son of William Denton Martin and Patience "Effie" Ann Ingle Martin. He was born in rural Marion County, AL closest to the town of Guin, AL. He married Bessie Maudine Haney on December 29, 1929 in Marion County, AL. Together they had five daughters; Gladys Maylene, Betty Sue, Imogene "Jean", Carol June and Linda Gail, and one son David Keith.

Earnest moved to Moline, Il in the 1950's and was employed as a night watchman at the former Y & S Candies, Moline, IL. and also worked at the former John Deere Plow Planter Works, Moline, IL.

After retiring Earnest and Bessie moved to Winfield, AL. and lived until their declining health. They moved to Cabot, AK and then to Rock Island and Moline, Il. and lived there until his death.

He was a quiet spoken man, much like his father. He loved southern Gospel music.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol June Aldridge, granddaughter, Charlotte Maddox, sisters, Fannie Wates, and Verna Lee Martin Reeves Black, and brothers, Valentine, Clarence, Newt, Lester and Ezra.

Earnest was a resident of Heartland Park Living Center in Moline, Illinois at the time of his death.
