David E. Roth, 84, headed dairy association

LOYSVILLE David E. Roth, 84, of Milmay Farm died yesterday in Leader Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.

He was a dairy farmer; former president and director of the Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association; former state director, executive board member, national delegate and state sale director in the Pennsylvania Holstein Association; an organizer of the Perry County Artificial Breeders Cooperative; and a director and president of the first Pennsylvania Artificial Breeders Cooperative, now Atlantic Breeders. He also was a 4-H leader; past president of Perry County Farmers Association; and helped establish the first Soil Conservation District in Perry County.

He was a member and district leader of Three Springs Church of the Brethren, a life deacon and a former official board chairman, Sunday school superintendent and vice chairman of the Adult Cabinet of Southern District of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Blain Lions Club and was named Lion of the Year in 1988.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Roop Roth; a son, David E. Jr.; two daughters, Ruth O. Bolze and Marie R. Gray, all of Loysville RR 1; a brother, G. Book of Carlisle; two sisters, Elizabeth Adams of New Oxford and Zella Bowers of Carlisle; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in his church. Burial will be in Blain Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Nickel Funeral Home, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
