Alonzo Ashmore was the son of J. B. Ashmore and Nancy Bell Ashmore. He was born in 1877 in Lawrence County, Tennessee. In 1891, his parents and all their children moved to Travis County, Texas, and settled near the Manor community.
Alonzo Ashmore became a school teacher. While teaching in San Saba, Texas, he met Mollie Eugenia Perry. They were married on June 30, 1912, in San Saba. They became the parents of seven children.
Alonzo served as a teacher for many years, also serving as the Superintendent of Manor Schools.
