Melvin Ashmore was born in Maury County, Tennessee, in 1888. He was the son of J. B. Ashmore and Nannie Bell Ashmore. When Melvin was three years old, his parents moved to Texas and settled in Travis County near Manor.
On May 18, 1910, Melvin Ashmore married Mary Etta McCullough in Manor, Texas. They became the parents of five children, three of whom lived to adulthood.
Melvin Ashmore began his married life working as a cotton farmer. Later he became a mail carrier and worked for the post office until his retirement.
Melvin Ashmore died in 1971 in Wharton, Texas, at age 83.
