Obituary: Robbie Ashmore Wilson, 85, a patron of the arts and active in civic and cultural affairs, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospital. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Ridglea Presbyterian Church. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Memorials: Ridglea Presbyterian Church, in care of Robbie and Jack Wilson Scholarship Fund, English-Speaking Union Scholarship Fund or Jewel Charity Ball. Pallbearers: Dr. George Sumner, Darrell Ashmore, Gary Ashmore, Rick Ashmore, Ronnie Ashmore, Randy, Brad and Neil Ashmore.
Robbie Ashmore Wilson was born April 25, 1916, in Leander. She was educated at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas Christian University. She earned a master's degree from TCU in English literature and was a past president of the TCU Women Exes, member of TCU Century Club, Chancellor's Associate of TCU, Addison and Randolph Clark Society of TCU, the Fine Arts Guild of TCU and Patron of the Friends of TCU Library. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Allegra Sorille in Austin.
She was a past president of the English-Speaking Union of Fort Worth, a visiting member of the English-Speaking Union of the Commonwealth and a Patron of the E.S.U. of the United States. She became a charter member of the Republicans Presidential Task Force in Washington, D.C.
Robbie Wilson served as president and director of the Rose Lisenby Shakespeare Club of the Fort Worth Woman's Club. She was an "Angel" to the Historical Preservation Trust of the FWWC. She served on the board of the Fort Worth Opera Guil and voluntyeered in the offices for many years. As a member of the Fort Worth Garden Club, she volunteered with their endeavors and activities.
She served as a volunteer in the chaplain's office of Harris Hospital for many years. Robbie was a member of the Jewel Charity Ball, and supporter of the Fort Worth area Arts Council, Fort Worth Ballet Association, Texas Girls Choir, Texas Heritage Inc., Schola Cantorium, Fort Worth Boys Club Council and Boysville Inc. of San Antonio.
Robbie spent many years studying her families genealogy and was a member of the Fort Worth Genealogical Society. She helped publish a book "The Perry Family" now in the Fort Worth Library. As a member of Ridglea Presbyterian Church, she served as Ecumenical Chairwoman in charge of Host Parents for International Students and presented many for honorary citizenship to the Fort Worth City Council for the Mayors Award. She was a member of Ridglea County Club, Petroleum Club, Carousel Dance Club and Farando Dance Club.
Robbie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jack Wilson, five years ago. Survivors: Son, Jackson Shields Wilson and wife, Candy, of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Lori and Whitney Wilson of Dallas; and brother, Bill Ashmore of Fort Worth.
