Obituary: Vera Ashmore Odom, 82, a retired credit officer, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at an Austin nursing home. Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at Arlington Heights Christian Church. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens. Vera Ashmore Odom was born on Sept. 10, 1917, in Leander. Friends and family to whom she dedicated her time and love remember Vera's indomitable spirit, her helping hands, and her candid nature. Vera was born to Alonzo and Mollie Ashmore and grew up in Manor. She graduated as valedictorian at Manor High School and attended The University of Texas before moving to Azle and then Fort Worth. During World War II, Vera was employed by Consolidated, what is now Lockheed-Martin, and later by the Montgomery Ward credit department. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin Odom, her brothers, Eugene, Lee (Pat), Alonzo and Charles (Mike); sisters-in-law Mildred and Ruth Ashmore; brothers-in-law, Jack Wilson and Fred Wendelken; nephew, Dennis Ashmore, and niece, Vickie Gill. The family extends thanks to care providers at Retirement and Nursing Care of Austin, in particular Gus, Lupe, Sue, Rose, Charsy and Mae for their personal attention. Survivors: Daughter, Patricia Odom; brother, William Ashmore; sister, Robbie Wilson; sisters-in-law, Juanita Klaver, Rosemarie Ashmore, Mary Ashmore and Betty Wendelken; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
