HUSBAND AND WIFE DIE WITHIN A FEW HOURS OF EACH OTHER

Death separated Mr. & Mrs. Charles Eckhart, well known and highly regarded residents of Twelfth Street, but a few hours as Mr. Eckhart answered the final summons Thursday afternoon and his good wife passed to her final reward Friday morning, the couple dying within a few hours of each other. Instead of being one corpse in the bereaved home there are two, the father and mother being in the cold embrace of death. Partners in life for a great many years, they passed out of this world almost at the same time. Mr. Eckhart had been ill for five weeks with complication of troubles and so serious was his condition that his death was not unexpected, but the sudden demise of his wife came as a shock to the family. Mrs. Eckhart underwent a decided change for the worse at 9 o'clock Friday morning and at 12 o'clock she had joined her husband in that great throng above. After traveling life's pathway together for over 35 years they went to their Master almost hand in hand. The sympathy of the community goes out to the family in its double affliction. Mr. Eckhart was born March 17, 1849. Mrs. Eckhart would have been 66 years old had she lived until May. The beloved couple whose flame of life was snuffed out almost simultaneously, are survived by three children; Mrs. (Elizabeth) Gardner Burns of Grant St; Mrs. (Mary Katherine) Charles Starlin and Mrs. (Emma) Ralph Ater of Twelfth St. Mr. Eckhart leaves four brothers and sisters as follows: Jacob Eckhart of Harrisonville; John Eckhart of Dayton OH; Lewis Eckhart of Columbus; William Eckhart of Columbus; Mrs. Mary Parks of Oak Hill Ohio; Mrs. Christina Tryum of Columbus; Mrs. Phoebe Coburn of Harrisonville; Mrs. Emma Coriell of Portsmouth. Mrs. Eckhart leaves two brothers, Chris and Martin Hines of South Charleston, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. (Catherine) James Hoover of Beaver, and Mrs. (Christina) Louis (Lewis) Eckhart of Columbus. Mr. Eckhart was a charter member of the Ben Hurs and was a member of the Modern Woodsmen of America. The couple had many friends and acquaintances in the city who will be pained to learn of their taking off in so short a space of time. The death of these good people recalls also the deaths of the late Mr. & Mrs. Frank White, Sr. who passed away on Christmas day within a few hours of each other. The funeral service of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eckhart will be conducted from the family residence 1160 Twelfth St. Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the officiating minister will be the Rev. T H McAfee. The services are held on Sunday to permit relatives living away from here an opportunity to get here in time for the last rites of this respected couple.
