Mary Barbara Hines Nicodemus
Peaceful tranquility after months of untold suffering, closed in death the early career of Mary Barbara Nicodemus, daughter of Christian and Eva Catherine Hines, born May 7 1859, aged 66 yrs, 3 months and 12 days. She was one of a family of 10 children being the ninth who was called to the unknown realms of the Great Beyond. The grief stricken husband, one brother, Martin Hines of South Charleston, Ohio, and a legion of relatives and friends are left to mourn her. On July 8th, 1880, she was united in marriage to William Nicodemus of Portsmouth, Ohio. After a brief stay in that city they moved to the state of Kansas where they resided for five yrs. After which they returned to their native state where they spent the remainder of her life living near her old home and birthplace in Beaver Township, Pike County. Mrs. Nicodemus, a member of the M E Church, was a woman who always saw the sunshine. She was a devoted and affectionate wife. Mrs. Nicodemus has passed away but she has left a precious heritage in the seeds of kindness she distributed in going down life's pathway. There comes the solemn voice of Him “Who doeth all things well” with the sad reminder at the burial service “In the midst of life, we are in death.” (died Aug 19, 1925; burial Aug 21 at Beaver Union Cemetery)
