Killed In Action---Mrs. Lempi Alto, Eben, received a telegram from the War Department this week stating that her husband, Sgt. Tovio Alto, was killed in action in Belguim, Dec. 28. Sgt Alto was inducted into the Army, Feb. 10, 1942 and received his training at Camp Hood, Texas, and Camp Atterbury, La., and was sent across in October 1944. Surviving her are his wife and two-year old son Dennis, who are making their home with Mrs. Alto's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Lintula in Eben; his father Hjalmer Alto, Eben; five sisters, Mrs. Alex Hillberg, Marquette; Mrs. Larry Rockwod, Eben; Mrs. Eino Neimi, AuTrain and Miss Catherine Alto, Detroit; also three brothers, Pvt. Charles Alto in France, Cpl. Victor Alto, Texas and Pvt. Alex Alto, Kentucky.

Final Rites For Eben Veteran
Final rites for Sgt. Tovio Alto, of Eben, who died during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium on Dec. 28, 1944, will be held at the 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the graveside in Pine Grove cemetery, Slapneck
The remains are expected to arrive in Munising that morning, with and Army escort, from Chicago, and will be taken to the Beaulieu home. The body will be taken to the cemetery just prior to the time of the service. the Rev. Armas Maki, of Marquette, will conduct the service.
Sgt. Alto, who is survived by his wife Lempi, and his son Dennis, was killed in action during the Bulge battle and had been temporarily buried in Henri Chapelle military cemetery near Liege, Belgium. He is also survived by his father of Eben; five sisters, Mrs. Alex Hillburg, of Marquette, Mrs. jack Robinson, Mrs. Larry Rockwood, Mrs. Eino Niemi, Katherine Alto, of Detroit; and three brothers, Victor, of Marquette, Charles and Alex of Eben.
Sgt. Alto who was 26, was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church and had attended Eben schools. He was employed by the Penegor Lumber Company before enlisting in the infantry in February of 1942. He three brothers, and Eugene Pohjonen, Elmer Juntunen and Waino Lehtomaki will be escorts for the funeral. Military escorts will also attend the services.
