VALPARAISO -- Emma Birky, 90, of Valparaiso, died Sunday, May 3, 1992, at home.
She was born Aug. 18, 1901, at Minier, Ill., the daughter of Edwin and Lydia (Egli) Miller.
She was a member of the Hopewell Mennonite Church of Kouts.
On Sept. 16, 1920, in Middlebury, Ind., she married Jake Birky, who preceded her in death in 1987.
Surviving are two daughters, Uarda King and LaVerne Birky, both of Valparaiso; two sons, Verlin Birky of Kouts and Marlin Birky of Valparaiso; three sisters, Sadie Yoder, Verna Bickel and Leola Plank, all of Goshen; four brothers, Harley, Elmer, Ora and Ralph Miller, all of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one sister, five brothers, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hopewell Mennonite Church, Kouts; the Revs. John Murray and Jerry Kandel officiating; burial at Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery; visitation 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at Kosanke Funeral Home, Kouts; memorials to Hopewell Mennonite Church.
