Uarda C. King, 88, of Morgan Township, Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at home.
She was born September 11, 1921 in Morgan Township, Valparaiso, to Jake and Emma (Miller) Birky.
Mrs. King was a member of Hopewell Mennonite Church in Kouts and was retired from the cafeteria at Morgan Township School where she was the head cook for 25 years. She will be remembered for her love of her family and the joy she took in baking and sharing cookies on their birthdays.
On September 11, 1940 in Valparaiso she married Harold C. King, who preceded her in death March 10, 2004.
Survivors include two daughters: Judy (Bob) Bachert of Kouts, Janice (Bernie) Trulley of Hebron; four sons; Marvin (Pat) King of Valparaiso, Keith (Phyllis) King of Kouts, Byron (Sherry) King of Kouts, and Rodney (Denise) King of Valparaiso; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, LaVerne Birky of Valparaiso; one brother, Verlin (Marge) Birky of Kouts; and sister in law, Sandra Birky of Valparaiso.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Mervin Dean; one brother, Marlin Birky; and daughter in law, Nancy King.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at Hopewell Mennonite Church, 805 N. Main St. in Kouts, with Pastors Joel Short and Chris Birky, officiating. Private family burial will take place at Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Hopewell Mennonite Church.
