Samuel Lee Hays, 87, Deming resident died Wednesday, May 29 at his residence. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m., Friday, at Baca's Funeral Chapels and the funeral service will be there at 2 p.m., Saturday with Brother Kenneth Avaritt of Benton, AR, officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. He was born in Newark, Texas and was a farmer. Samuel was a Deming resident since 1947, having previously lived in Bowie, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Lillian of the home; four sons, Thomas Jerrold, Lee Roy, Samuel Joe and Donnie Ray, all of Deming; a daughter, Jeanetta Laverne Holmes, Deming; a brother, Lawrence Wilson Hays, Deming; four sisters, Lillie Hays, Ruth Nelson, Pernedia Ruebush all of Deming and Jewell Dean McConathy, Sierra Vista, AZ; 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by a daughter, Ruby Inez Hays in 1929; two brothers, Thomas Oliver Hays and Edward Hays, and a sister Buelah May Waldrop. Pallbearers will be Marvin Hays, Jerry Hays, James Holmes, Kenneth Hays, Joe Hays and Curtis Hays. Honorary bearers will be Johnny Hays, Terry Hays, Bobby Hays, Lee Holmes and Craig Hays.

Lee and Lillian's infant daughter, Ruby, is buried in Bluegrove Cemetery, Clay County, Texas. Her memorial is #64701806.
