Anne "Karine" Hansen was born at Tansem Township, Clay Co., MN to Stephen Hansen Furua and Bertha Larsdtr, both from Gran, Norway. She was the eldest of a huge family that included 17 children. Sadly, her mother Bertha died when Karine was not quite 11 years old. Her father quickly remarried and had 11 more children.

On November 9, 1893 Karine married her first cousin Ole Christian Hanson. They first lived in Barron Co., WI near Ole's parents for a few years. Then they moved north to near Pelan, in Roseau County, MN where they lived for 11 years. Then they moved to Baudette in 1911 where they remained until 1954, at which time they moved to Duluth, MN to live with their daughter Sylvia and her family.

Karine and Ole had 10 children. Three children died young. These included Stephen (died at birth on Sep 14, 1896), Ralph Lionel (born May 5, 1903 and died March 10, 1912), and Carl Odin (born June 29, 1905 and died July 23 1905). Bernard Oliver died after a tragic accident in 1934.

Six children survived Karine. These included Calma (Mrs. Frans) Swanson, Helen (Mrs. Gust Forsman), Evelyn (Mrs. Norman Wollett), Clarence Melvin, Leon Ole, and Sylvia (Mrs. Fred Moen). She is also survived by one sister Minnie (Mrs. Carl O.) Soberg, 17 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Helgeson's Funeral Chapel and interment was in the Elm Park Cemetery.
