A daughter of Ole and Karine Hanson, Helen was born at Pelan in Roseau County, MN on January 1, 1901. She and Gust Forsman were married at Spooner, now East Baudette, on December 29, 1917. They made their home there. Helen was an excellent seamstress and did a considerable amount of work for others in addition to being a homemaker.
Following Gust's death in 1947, Helen moved to Watertown, SD to be near her daughter Gladys. She also did seamstress work there as well as working in a ready to wear store for ladies. When her daughter and family moved to Sioux Falls in 1977, she accompanied them and made her home with them for 10 years before becoming a resident of the nursing home.
Throughout those years, Helen returned often to Baudette and Williams to visit her brother and sisters, and after her retirement would spend most of every summer in Williams until illness put a stop to her travelling.
Surviving are her daughter, Gladys (Mrs. Jerry) Leahy of Sioux Falls, a daughter-in-law Maria Gfrocrer of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters and two brothers: Sylvia (Mrs. Albin) Anderson and Leon Hanson of Baudette, Calma Swanson of Williams, and Clarence Hanson of Indianapolis, Indiana.
