Ben Vail was the son of Jeremiah Vail, Sr. and Mary Bradley and grandson of John Michael Vail and Rachel Funderburk. He married Savannah Cordelia Gainey/Ganey Wilson, a widow, on Aug. 5, 1888 in Jackson Parish, LA. She was the daughter of William F. Gainey and Sarah Ann Souls. Children: George Wallace, Alonzo Willard, William Melvin, Elmer Eli and Leonard Newton Vail. After Ben's death, Savannah married Louis James Alexander and had Exie Alexander, who died young, and Ella Birdie Alexander, who married Floyd Chambers Burks, brother of Charles Edward "Charlie" Burks.
