Anna Gerardy, daughter of Peter and Caroline (Christel) Gerardy, was born April 24, 1861, at the Gerardy farm home south of Wathena in [Wayne township], Doniphan Co., KS.
As a girl growing up in rural Kansas, Anna did her share to help her family. Being the only girl in the family, she was a great help to her mother in the house. She also helped neighbors' families in times of illness or when there was a new baby. She often aided the doctor in the delivery of the baby. One time while Anna was working for a neighbor's family, increased with a newborn child, a severe rainstorm raised the nearby river over its banks and flooded the family out of their home. Anna, in her teens, waded several miles in waist deep water, with a toddler strapped to her back and another child in her arms, helping to evacuate the endangered family to safety. This severe exposure brought on the malaria which plagued Anna every year of her life until she moved to California.
On Nov. 2, 1881, she was married to Lester Faivre at Peach Grove, [Clay County], KS. They established their first home on a farm in the Idlewild neighborhood of Clay County, Kansas. Later Anna and Lester moved to Clay Center where they lived for a few years before moving to California when in 1914 Anna was chronically ill with malaria and her doctor recommended a change of location. In a train berth and escorted by her son-in-law, Harry Giles, Anna journeyed to Brawley, Imperial Valley, California, where she became well and lived to the age of eighty-seven. Anna's husband, Lester, and daughter, Leonie, with Leonie and Harry's four children, followed a few months later. They lived there a few years before moving to Long Beach and finally settling in San Diego. They resided in San Diego at 4644 Wilson Avenue until they died.
Anna and Lester Faivre had three children:
l. Leonie Bertha Faivre b. Aug. 7, 1882
