Dr. Herman H. Gerardy, 2514 Reagan, passed away Monday at Seagraves. Survived by wife, Mrs. Myrtle Gerardy; two sons, Dr. Carl W. Gerardy, Seagraves, and L. H. Gerardy, Irving; two daughters, Mrs. Victor C. Woodman, San Marcos, Calif., and Miss Herma Jone Gerardy, Seagraves; a foster daughter, Miss Marian Mitchell, Dallas; four brothers, Will and Frank Gerardy, Greer, Kan.; E. K. Gerardy, Sacramento, Calif., and Edward Gerardy, Chandler, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. L. Faivre, San Diego, Calif. Funeral services at Weiland's Funeral Church, 2909 Live Oak at 10 a. m. Thursday, the Rev. Max Strang and the Rev. J. Lloyd Smith officiating.

Herman Henry Gerardy, son of Peter and Caroline Gerardy, was born November 11, 1869, near Wathena, Doniphan County, Kansas. He died on January 27, 1941, at Seagraves, Texas. Buried at Restland Memorial Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. He was married August 27, 1898, at her Airy Slope home eight miles northwest of Emporia, Kansas, to Myrtie Howe, daughter of Jonas Hendee Howe and Sarah Comstock Howe. Myrtie was born September 9, 1876, and died Oct. 29, 1964 in California. She was buried at Westminster Memorial Park, Westminster, California.
Herman attended the Fairview country elementary school. He became determined to have a better education and financed his own education at the State Normal School in Emporia by teaching in country schools, giving organ lessons and doing farm work during summer vacations. After graduation in 1896 he taught one year as Assistant Principal at Frankfort, Kansas and then he returned to college for a year of postgraduate work.
During the next 13 years he was Superintendent of Schools at Jewell (two years), Smith Center (five years) and Norton (six years). During this time he was elected president of the Northwest Teachers Association and first vice-president of the State Teachers Association. He also conducted and taught summer sessions of a Teacher Institute and served on the County Teacher's Examining Board. He resigned to accept a teaching position on the faculty at Kansas State Normal, now known as Kansas State Teachers College.
After 16 years of successful teaching he resigned in order to enter the American School of Osteopathy at Kirksville, Missouri, where he graduated in June, 1914. In August, 1914, he opened an office in the Wilson Building at Dallas, Texas, where he was in active practice until his final illness and death.
He was an elder in the Central Congregational Church of Dallas, past president of the Dallas County Osteopathic Association, and a member of the Dallas Kiwanis Club. Following Herman's death, Myrtie, Loren and Herma Jone moved to California where Nelia was already living. Carl, who had already established a medical practice at Seagraves, Texas, remained in Texas.
Herman and Myrtie had four children and one foster daughter:
1. Nelia Carolena Gerardy b. Aug. 18, 1899
2. Loren Howe Gerardy b. Dec. 3, 1902
3. Carl William Gerardy b. May 6, 1906
4. Herma Jone Gerardy b. May 17, 1918
