Emile Lafayette Gerardy, son of Peter and Caroline (Christel) Gerardy, was born April 24, 1875, on the family farm in Washington County, Kansas, and died December 18, 1945, at Sacramento, California. He was married April 3, 1899, to Wilhelmina Augusta "Minnie" Meidinger, the daughter of John and Henrietta (Christel) Meidinger. Minnie was born October 23, 1872, in Doniphan County, Kansas, and died on March 3, 1955, at Sacramento, California. Both are buried in Masonic Lawn Cemetery, Sacramento, California.

Emile attended Kansas State Normal School at Emporia and received his teaching certificate. Emile and Minnie established a home on a farm near Fact, Clay County, Kansas, where Emile farmed and taught school for several years. They moved to Alma, Kansas, in 1905 and to Americus, Kansas, in 1908. They lived there until 1921 when they moved to Sacramento. A year later they built a home at 1120 Arcade Blvd. where they lived until they died. For several years Emile was associated with the Borden Milk Company. During World War II he worked at McClelland Air Base and was still working there at the time of his death.

Minnie and Emile had two sons:
1. Floyd LeRoy Gerardy, b. Dec. 4, 1900
2. Ivan Glen Gerardy, b. Oct. 21, 1905
