Granville Aaron Long, son of Aaron B. Long and Mary Cuppy Long was born at Leon, Iowa, January 10, 1869, the youngest of six sons. He departed from this life September 25, 1950, at his home in Leon.

In 1886, he was graduated from Leon High School as valedictorian of his class. All of his active business life was spent in Long's Dry Goods Store at Leon.

On October 27, 1908, he and Clara Gardner were united in marriage. To this union was born Carl C. Long, of Leon, and Mary Fleetwood, of Fargo, North Dakota.

Active for many years in Masonic work, he received a 50 year certificate of membership in 1946. He was a Past Commander of the Knights Templer, Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a Charter member of Leon Order or The White Shrine, and its first Watchman of Shepherds.
For several years he served as a member of the Leon Library Board and had always a genuine interest in the welfare of the community.

Surviving are his widow, two children, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Miller Long, a son-in-law, Charles Fleetwood, and two granddaughters, Molly Elaine Fleetwood, and Sarah Catherine Long.

Funeral Service, 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 1950, at the Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. John McCallum of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial was made in the Leon Cemetery. (The Leon Journal-Reporter, Leon, Iowa)

Granville's daughter, Mary Long Fleetwood, died July 29, 2004, in Portland, Oregon.
