He was born February 15, 1924, in Berthold, ND, the son of Anton and Laura (Kleven) Johnson. He was reared and educated in a rural school near Berthold.
He entered the United States Navy on April 21, 1943, and served aboard the U. S. S. Mississippi. Donald had three brothers, Arnold, Bloyd, and Roland that served at the same time. He was honorably discharged on February 21, 1946. After his discharge he returned to Minot and worked at various jobs before going to work for the Great Northern Railroad Company. He worked there for 41 years until his retirement.
He married Regina Ell on February 5, 1947, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mandan, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three daughters, Shelly Lynn Johnson, Cheryl Lee Johnson, Jeryl Marie Johnson; four brothers, Gerald, Bloyd, Roland and Arnold and eight half sisters and brothers, Kleona, Tilly, Adeline, Annie, Amanda, Lawrence, Johnny and Joe.
Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, June 3, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
Visitation: Sunday, May 2, 2002, from Noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Rosary Recitation: Sunday, May 2, 2002, at 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
