Private Thomas Massarelli, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Massarelli, Alden Place, will be buried Saturday morning, May 28. Private Massarelli lost his life in action March 9, 1945. Legionnaires will meet at the Parish House, Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. and march to the Allen Funeral Home. The services at St. Joseph's Church will be held at 10:00. Stores and business houses in the village will be closed between 9:45 and 10:45 am. in tribute to the soldier. Private Massarelli was inducted in October, 1942, and was discharged a year later. He was recalled to the service May 18, 1944. He received additional training at Camp Croft, S. C and Fort Meade before going overseas in the fall of 1944. In January, 1945, he was reported missing, while serving under General Patton, in an infantry unit in Luxembourg. A month later his family received word that Private Massarlli had returned to his unit safely. The young soldier met his death March 9, 1945, while his unit was in action In Germany. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, John
Jr., Paul, and Vincent, now serving with the U. S. Army in Georgia; four, sisters, Fannie, Anna, Josephine, and Nancy, his grandfather, Mr Pasquale Magnarella, Millbrook
