HYDE PARK - John Massarelli, Jr. a resident of Hyde Park, entered into rest Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 84. Son of the late John and Josephine Caracappa Massarelli, Sr. he was born February 16, 1926 in Millbrook. On May 29, 1946 in Dover he married the former Lucy Campbell. Mrs. Massarelli preceded him in death on August 22, 1998. John was a World War II veteran. Prior to his retirement, John worked as mechanic for various dealerships and garages in the area. He was an avid golf player and also enjoyed playing bingo. John followed the Mets and was a loyal fan. Being a mechanic, he was also a car buff. John is survived by his children, Charles Massarelli of Elko, Georgia, JoAnne MassarelliVecchi of Hyde Park, Nancy Bate of Huachuca City, Arizona, Judith Massarelli of Hyde Park and Linda Shattuck and her husband, Bruce of Valatie; his brothers, Vincent and Paul Massarelli; his sisters, Fannie Anderson, Anna DiStefano and Nancy Sessa; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marie Massarelli; son, John Massarelli, III; daughter-in-law, Helen Massarelli; brother, Thomas Massarelli and sister, Josephine "Dolly" Massarelli.
