1878 Obit: Mrs. Hannah Buffington died of consumption at the residence of her husband, Titus Buffington, in Xenia on the morning of Aug 15 after a lingering illness of several weeks. The deceased was born in Meigs Co Ohio 17 Jan 1831, age at death 46 yrs 4 mos and 28 days.

She was first married to Oliver Hammond 9 Oct 1851 in Meigs County Ohio and emigrated to Wayne co Illiinois in 1853 with her husband and her parents and other church and family members.

They had two children, George and Lura. George died as an infant.

And then came the war. Oliver HAMMOND enlisted 09 August 1862 at Xenia Ill as Corporal, Promoted to Full Sergt, C Co. 111th Inf Reg. IL, commanded by Capt. Clark. He died on an army hospital ship in New York.

After Oliver's death, Hannah married again to Titus Buffington. "On 28 day of June 1868 Hannah was married to Titus BUFFINGTON with whom she lived happily to the time of her death," according to the Wayne Co Press 29 Aug 1878.

Hannah and Titus Buffington had a daughter Myrtle W. "Nannie" Buffington born July 1870. She married Samuel W. Howard about 1889, and they moved to near Denver Colorado and had three children.

Campground cemetery is located just south of US highway 50 on the railroad between Xenia and Flora Illinois, actually between Xenia and Kenner.
