OBITUARY

Stephen S. Branch was born near Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio on August 5, 1835, removing with his parents to Illinois in 1857.

He resided with his parents until 1861, when he enlisted in the Union Army and served through the war, returning to his home in Wayne County where, in 1872 he was united in marriage to Martha Jane Wood.

She died in 1873 and Mr. Branch moved to Barton County, Kansas in 1874, where he remained until 1880, when he returned to Marion County, Illinois and united in marriage to Callie Stribling. To this union two children were born; Mabel R. and Charley.

In the summer of 1885 he moved to Springfield, Missouri, where his wife departed this life in November of that year.

In 1904 he came to Harper County, where he remained until his death, his children having preceded him to the other life.

Deceased was a respected citizen, and his last moments in life were cheered by his comrades of the war, who also had charge of his funeral, which by request of the deceased was very simple, and the remains were laid to rest in the Buffalo Cemetery on Thursday, August 31, 1911.
