When Bernice was just a teen the family lived in Gadsden. The Ellis family lived just down the street so, I am sure that is how she met Otis. They were married in Dade County, Georgia. According to son Alvis they went to Dade Co, Ga. in a buggy. On returning to Gadsden they ran into rain so they stopped at a house along the way for the night. The lady of the house made them sleep in separate room for she did not believe they were married. Quite a start for a honeymoon.
