Sisters Observe Golden Wedding Same Day.

In a double wedding ceremony on Aug. 27, 1895, Miss Elva Gartin became the bride of Charles LaFollette, while her sister, Miss Emma Gartin, was married to Elmer Deakins at the home of the brides' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gartin of Gower. both couples are lifelong residents of Buchanan County. Today they are celebrating their golden anniversaries together in the LaFollette home in Gower amidst relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Deakens are now residents of Agency.

Mr. and Mrs. LaFollette are the parents of a son, Elmer LaFollette of Hiawatha, and a daughter Mrs. Neil Smally of Seneca, Kan. they have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One grandson, Sergt. Sheldon LaFollette, is in East India.

Mr. and Mrs. Deakins have two daughters, Mrs. Clifton Miles of Gower and Mrs. Ralph McCray of Agency. They have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Two grandsons, are Srgt. Forest Holt, who has just returned from two years overseas, and Corp. Vernon Holt, who is in the Philippines, are in the army.

Mr. Deakins is 69 and Mrs. Deakins is 68 years old.

Mrs. Emma Deakins, age 88, passed away Friday about noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clifton Miles, after a long illness. She was the widow of Elmer Deakins, who preceded her in death four years last August. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Miles and Mrs. R. C. (Loie) McCray; five grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elva LaFollette; a host of nieces and nephews; and friends.

Services were Sunday at the Hixson Funeral Hone in Gower, and burial was in the Frazier cemetery.
